About The Position

Akima Infrastructure Services, LLC (AIS) is seeking a Laboratory Technician to join their staff augmentation team supporting the Department of Energy at the Y‑12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, and the Pantex Plant in Amarillo, Texas. Successful candidates will be employees of AIS, a government contractor focused on employing motivated and well-qualified personnel to advance Y-12's mission of ensuring a safe, secure, and reliable U.S. nuclear deterrent. While employed by AIS, employees will take day-to-day direction from Y-12 staff. AIS provides pay, benefits, Human Resources, and Employment Management functions. Qualified applicants must be US citizens, at least 18 years of age, and meet pre-employment requirements including physicals, drug screens, and background investigations for Department of Energy clearance. This is a full-time position of at least 40 hours per week, with a normal schedule of Monday through Thursday from 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Requirements

  • Licensed by the State of Tennessee as a Medical Technologist (also known as Medical Laboratory Scientist or Clinical Laboratory Scientist).
  • AS or higher and 6-10 years of relevant experience or high school diploma and 20 or more years of relevant experience.
  • Must be a US citizen, at least 18 years of age.
  • Able to meet pre-employment requirements including any required physicals, drug screen, and/or background investigation to satisfy clearance requirements from the Department of Energy.
  • Pre-employment Drug Screen: External applicants selected for this position are required to successfully complete a post-offer, pre-employment drug test.
  • Medical Exam(s): Job related pre-placement medical examinations may be required for this position.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy.
  • If determined as such, this position would be identified as a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require participation in an ongoing random drug testing program in addition to the pre-employment drug screen.

Responsibilities

  • Collecting blood samples (Venipuncture).
  • Handling blood and urine samples and sample processing.
  • Running calibrations, quality control samples, proficiency testing samples, and patient samples on laboratory analyzers.
  • Reviewing and interpreting lab results and entering them into an electronic medical record system.
  • Performing scheduled analyzer maintenance.
  • Being trained to perform vision testing, ECG, and taking vitals (blood pressure, pulse, O2 sat, temperature).
  • Being scheduled to take a NIOSH-approved Spirometry training course to become proficient in performing spirometry (pulmonary function) testing.
  • Being scheduled to take a CAOHC-approved Audiometry course to become certified in performing audiograms (hearing tests).
