About The Position

We are currently searching for an outstanding Laboratory Technician to provide support services to satisfy the overall operational objectives of induced Pluripotent Stem Cells (iPSC) Core within the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI). This is a full-time, on-site opportunity in Bethesda, MD. Perform and assist various experiments and procedures that may include working with human iPSCs and peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) as well as utilizing CRISPER/Cas9 techniques. Assist in the design of new experimental procedures by locating the appropriate references followed by setting up, applying, and evaluating the procedure in question. Collect, organize, analyze, and interpret data. Prepare technical reports, summaries, protocols, standard operating procedures, Maintain laboratory supply inventories, perform general lab maintenance and organization, provide updates as applicable. Troubleshoot problems with equipment or experimental techniques; develop methods to resolve these difficulties under the direction of the task leader. Maintain security, record keeping, and monitoring of agents used in studies. Maintain laboratory safety and safety training records. Use databases for sample/reagent tracking. Operate and communicate effectively in a group and team-oriented working environment.

Requirements

  • Degree in biology (general, molecular and cell), genetics, biochemistry or a related field
  • Ph.D. with at least three (3) years of related experience
  • Master’s degree with at least five (5) years of related experience in lieu of Ph.D.
  • Bachelor’s degree in same fields with at least eight (8) years of related experience in lieu of Ph.D.
  • Experience in DNA extraction, human cell culture and/or gene editing techniques.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of proper laboratory disposal methods and safety procedures.
  • Proven proficiency with Microsoft 365.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Federal or DoD “public trust”; candidates must receive approved adjudication prior to onboarding with Guidehouse.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Pluripotent stem (iPS) cell culture is preferred but not required.
  • Experience with graphing software such as GraphPad, preferred.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues.
  • Independently use judgment consistent with standards, practices, policies, procedures, and regulations to make accurate recommendations and effectively resolve issues.
  • Ability to work both individually and in a team-oriented environment.
  • Must be organized, with a strong ability to multi-task, prioritize, and attention to detail
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • Candidates with an active public trust or suitability are preferred.
