About The Position

As a Laboratory Technician at IDEXX, you will perform laboratory testing that helps veterinarians diagnose and treat pets. This role is a key contributor at one of the largest veterinary diagnostic companies in the world, joining a fast-paced work environment that encourages teamwork, quality, and offers opportunities for personal growth. Extensive training is provided for this role, making it suitable for individuals with prior lab experience or those new to the field. This is a full-time position with excellent day-one benefits. You can expect to work in either the Sample Management Department, where you will sort, tag, and prepare samples for testing, or the Parasitology Department, where you will prepare fecal samples for analyzers and use other techniques to identify ova or parasites. You will use automated analyzers, microscopes, and other laboratory diagnostic tools to perform analyses and tests that diagnose animal illnesses, injuries, and diseases in support of veterinarian animal treatment. This involves performing diagnostic tests on blood, urine, fecal, or pet biopsy samples, setting up and running lab tests, and then reading and releasing results according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • Experience setting up, running, and reading lab tests.
  • Experience operating laboratory equipment (microscopes, pipetting and/or clinical diagnostic analyzers).
  • Positive attitude and energy to support colleagues.
  • Ability to work in a team.
  • Concentration on details and ability to work reliably and precisely.
  • Great sense of team spirit and responsibility.
  • Able to meet the physical requirements: standing and sitting for extended periods of time, phone & computer use, extended reach, lifting up to 50lb, and specific vision ability (close, color, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus).
  • Potential exposure to biohazards, agents known to cause zoonotic diseases, and hazardous chemicals.
  • Must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S.

Nice To Haves

  • 2-, 3-, or 4-year degree in a Science-related field is preferred.
  • Experience as a Veterinary Technician (RVT, LVT, CVT) or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT or MT) is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform laboratory testing to help veterinarians diagnose and treat pets.
  • Sort, tag, and prepare samples for testing in the Sample Management Department.
  • Prepare fecal samples for loading and unloading into analyzers in the Parasitology Department.
  • Use automated analyzers, microscopes, and other laboratory diagnostic tools to perform analyses and tests.
  • Perform diagnostic tests on blood, urine, fecal, or pet biopsy samples.
  • Set up and run lab tests.
  • Read and release results according to SOPs.
