About The Position

Intertek is seeking a Minerals Laboratory Technician to join its Minerals team in Kershaw, South Carolina. The role processes client samples through the laboratory, from sample preparation and analysis through recording analytical results and preparing reports. Work must comply with Intertek operating procedures, ISO 17025 standards, and client requirements, and be completed in a timely and efficient manner. The position operates on 12-hour rotating shifts and is performed under the direction of the Laboratory Supervisor. Intertek Minerals provides geochemical assay and testing, minerals inspection, and trade services for the global minerals and mining supply chain. This role supports safe, accurate laboratory operations, quality management, and timely processing of samples.

Requirements

Ability to safely perform manual handling tasks, including standing for extended periods and regularly lifting approximately 50 pounds, in accordance with safe work practices.
Effective verbal and written communication skills suitable for a laboratory and production environment.
Ability to work independently once trained while managing fluctuating workloads and changing priorities.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced operational environment while maintaining safety and quality standards.
Strong practical problem-solving skills and sound mechanical aptitude relevant to sample-preparation equipment.
Ability to work cooperatively as part of a team to support operational and production requirements.
Valid driver’s license and reliable driving record.

Nice To Haves

Associate's degree preferred.
Two years of experience working in a Gold or Base Metals laboratory.

Responsibilities

Ensure sampling, testing, and analytical activities are conducted safely, accurately, and according to established quality standards.
Participate in daily pre-start meetings, shift handovers, safety meetings, and other required operational communications.
Prepare samples using approved digestion and dissolution methods, laboratory work instructions, and test methods, using appropriate personal protective equipment.
Analyze samples according to documented Intertek laboratory procedures and work independently without direct supervision once deemed competent.
Manage workload, multitask, and self-manage multiple jobs to use time effectively and meet operational priorities.
Operate laboratory and sample-preparation equipment according to training and safe work procedures.
Complete work in a timely manner according to priorities set by the Lab Supervisor or Lab Manager, including sample receipt, preparation, analysis, and instrumentation duties.
Perform routine housekeeping and weekly maintenance, including reasonable manual handling, to maintain a clean, organized, and contamination-free work environment.
Maintain accurate records by completing laboratory worksheets and updating Excel spreadsheets and other required systems according to laboratory procedures.
Meet work deadlines and quality requirements set by the Lab Supervisor or Lab Manager.
Provide quality-control support to colleagues and escalate non-conformances according to laboratory procedures.
Update and maintain work-area quality records daily in accordance with the laboratory quality management system and ISO 17025 best practice.
Provide technical support within the scope of individual training, competency, and authorization when required.
Comply with applicable work instructions and procedures, safe work instructions, and lawful written or verbal directions from the supervisor.
Participate in risk management activities, including completing risk assessments and implementing hazard controls.
