About The Position

EMSL is seeking a Laboratory Technician (Lead) in Huntington Beach, CA. The technician supports the laboratory analysts by preparing samples for analysis. No laboratory experience is required, just a desire to learn technical skills and become proficient in common laboratory practices and procedures. On-the-job training will be provided for all new employees.

Requirements

  • High School diploma OR GED equivalent
  • Authorization to work in the United States indefinitely without restriction or sponsorship
  • Ability to distinguish colors in order to perform analysis
  • Basic math skills related to analytical chemistry
  • Flexible to work overtime on weekdays and weekends when needed
  • Physical requirements include the ability to lift up to 25lbs and standing for various lengths of time
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, self-motivation, adaptability and a positive attitude

Nice To Haves

  • Some laboratory experience either in academic or commercial setting is a plus
  • Experience with microscope, Flame-AA, ICP is desired

Responsibilities

  • Preparation of environmental and industrial hygiene lead samples by Flame-AA (Flame Atomic Absorption) using equipment including analytical balance, fume hoods, hot block, environmental chamber, etc.
  • Preparation and analysis of environmental samples for metals analysis using approved EPA, ASTM, NIOSH, and OSHA test methodologies
  • Preparation and digestion of environmental lead samples: caulking, concrete, paint, soil, wipes and air cassettes by Flame-AA (Flame Atomic Absorption)
  • Support all sample-related activities, including preservation, preparation, and disposal
  • Clean, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment as needed
  • Generate analytical reports and enter data into LIMS system
  • Perform quality control practices per company Quality Assurance/Quality Control manual
  • Administrative duties including sample login and data entry, scanning and emailing reports and answering phones
  • Maintain a neat and orderly work area, maintaining supplies
  • Follow EMSL Safety protocol and guidelines while utilizing PPE as appropriate
  • Cross training in various instrumentation including: XRD, GC, HPLC, GCMS, ICP, ICP-MS, Balance, Mercury FIMS and as required
  • Other responsibilities as deemed necessary by the manager
