Reporting to the Laboratory Supervisor or Laboratory Manager, we are hiring a Laboratory Technician – Inorganic Wet Chemistry to join our Environmental Laboratory team in Mississauga. As our new Laboratory Technician, you will prepare and analyze environmental samples using a variety of inorganic wet chemistry techniques, helping produce accurate, defensible analytical data used in environmental monitoring and regulatory decision-making.

Working in a high-volume laboratory, you will follow established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), maintain sample integrity, operate laboratory equipment, and ensure testing is completed safely, accurately, and within required turnaround times.

This is a full-time, contract on-site role based in Mississauga, working Tuesday to Saturday from 12:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Saturday time schedule is 8:30pm to 5pm. Overtime may be available based on operational requirements.

Requirements

• College Diploma or University Degree in Chemistry or a related field.
• Practical laboratory experience and exposure to inorganic analytical techniques such as titration, spectrophotometry, combustion, colorimetry, and/or ion-selective electrode (ISE) testing.
• Comfortable operating laboratory equipment such as pipettes, balances, pH meters, filtration equipment, and liquid-handling instruments, or are motivated to develop these skills.
• Understand the importance of accurately following SOPs, maintaining detailed records, protecting sample integrity, and producing reliable analytical data.
• Manage your time effectively, prioritize competing tasks, and maintain accuracy while working in a high-volume laboratory environment.
• Can recognize when something doesn't look right, investigate issues within established procedures, and know when to escalate a problem to your Supervisor.
• Communicate clearly with colleagues and supervisors and provide timely updates when priorities change or delays arise.
• Comfortable working in a changing, high-volume environment and can work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
• Detail-oriented, dependable, energetic, motivated, and bring a positive, “can-do” attitude to your work.
• Able to safely lift up to 20 kg as required.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and analyze environmental samples. You will perform sample preparation, extractions, and basic analytical procedures according to established SOPs and specific sample matrices.
• Apply inorganic wet chemistry techniques. You will support testing using techniques such as ISE, titration, spectrophotometry, combustion, and/or colorimetry, depending on laboratory requirements.
• Deliver accurate, defensible results. You will maintain a high level of accuracy throughout sample preparation and analysis while ensuring samples are analyzed within required holding times and turnaround time (TAT) specifications.
• Plan and organize your work. You will review LIMS summary reports to prioritize daily activities, manage competing tasks, and provide advance notice of any potential delays.
• Maintain laboratory equipment and supplies. You will operate and perform routine maintenance on equipment such as pipettes, balances, pH meters, filtration apparatus, and liquid-handling instruments. You will also prepare standards and reagents and monitor supplies to ensure adequate inventory.
• Protect sample integrity. You will use proper laboratory techniques to minimize the risk of mislabeling, sample mix-ups, cross-contamination, and other errors.
• Identify and resolve issues. You will recognize non-routine samples, sample deviations, non-conformances, and process issues, following SOPs and ISO 17025 requirements to assess and correct problems and escalating issues to your Supervisor when required.
• Support quality and compliance. You will document deviations and corrective actions, maintain accurate records and training documentation, and participate in internal and external audits when requested.
• Maintain a safe, organized workplace. You will follow Bureau Veritas quality and health and safety procedures, participate in relevant meetings and initiatives, and keep your workstation clean, neat, and organized.
• Collaborate and communicate. You will provide regular updates on workstation status, communicate issues or delays proactively, and work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
