About The Position

This position requires an active Secret clearance and provides support with laboratory experiments in BSL-2, BSL-3, and BSL-4 laboratories. The role requires maintaining BPRP status in accordance with contract provisions and applicable regulations. Responsibilities include aiding in the execution of scientific studies, performing basic cell culture and plaque assays, polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and other assays, animal procedures, collection/data analyzing, and maintaining laboratory and laboratory equipment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent in Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Immunology, Biology, or a related field and 1+ years lab experience.
  • Skilled with basic Molecular Biology Assays: ELISA, Western Blot, Plaque Assays, PRNT assays, PCR, etc.
  • Skilled with animal handling for large and small animals, including NHPs and rodents.
  • Ability to perform animal inoculations, blood and tissue collection, and sample processing.
  • Working knowledge/ability to learn GFEBs ordering system.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to multi-task in a high-paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Must have an active Secret Clearance.
  • Ability to pass a US Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for participation in the BPRP.
  • US citizenship.
  • Must pass pre-employment qualifications of Cherokee Federal.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in BSL-2, BSL-3, and BSL-4 biocontainment labs is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Supports small and large animal studies in BSL-2, BSL-3, and BSL-4 laboratories.
  • Performs inoculations with virus, vaccine, or applicable testing material.
  • Collects tissues for processing and conducts blood sample collection.
  • Performs in vitro testing of candidate vaccines and therapeutic compounds against a variety of viruses.
  • Prepares cell culture media and other study supplies, including paperwork, as necessary.
  • Performs immunological procedures including enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and Western Blot assays.
  • Performs basic cell culture, plaque assays (PA), plaque reduction neutralization test (PRNT), PCR, and other assays to support NHP and rodent studies.
  • Performs basic lab management duties, such as assessing, maintaining, and ordering lab supplies.
  • Assists with the annual conduct of Equipment Inventory Management in BSL-2 and BSL-3.
  • May serve as a BSL-2 mentor.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
