About The Position

The Laboratory Technician II (LT II) is competent and performs all duties and responsibilities of the Laboratory Technician I role. The LT II’s primary focus is the timely and accurate delivery of daily work in the Biodesix laboratory setting, which requires previously acquired education, technical training and/or experience required to perform regulated clinical laboratory test realization (i.e., test specimen receipt through test result generation) using standard in-vitro laboratory techniques within a proprietary LIMS system and the Biodesix regulatory environment(s). A successful LT II is responsible for the setup, support, and execution of the daily activities of the laboratory team while interacting cross-functionally in the organization. The LT II must embrace a culture of transparency and proactive communication to share data, technical knowledge, process improvements as well as process errors and inefficiencies by promptly and professionally communicating with both colleagues and managers in a way that exhibits a commitment to delivering quality patient results through tenaciousness and follow through to resolution and furthering the LT II skillset. Immediate and ongoing training will be provided to supplement key skills required to perform the functions of this position and promote growth within the laboratory and the wider organization. The Biodesix laboratory operates 7 days a week to deliver lung disease testing both timely and accurately to our physicians and patients and therefore weekend, holiday and evening working hours may be included in employment as LT II at Biodesix. Appropriate designees may act as responsible delegates according to the established Roles and Responsibilities, including day to day responsibilities required for CAP/CLIA and NYS CLEP, as well as all state-specific requirements in which Biodesix is an approved test facility.

Requirements

  • The LT II has greater than 1 year of demonstratable/documented experience in Biodesix, or equivalent, High Complexity Testing and timely and accurately:
  • Is deemed Competent in at minimum, 80% of Biodesix defined competencies
  • Exhibits a Manual Process Error (MPE) rate over a rolling 6-month window of N%, or less. This rate may be periodically updated based on changes in Methodologies or Business demands
  • Comply with the Laboratory Continuing Education program and all other business assigned Trainings required for performance of job requirements
  • Outstanding technical laboratory skills and ability to operate independently
  • Excellent attention to detail with a strong commitment to thoroughness and error-free execution of procedures
  • Knowledge of lab safety and Good Laboratory Practices (GLP)
  • Basic computer and typing skills required (Microsoft Office suite)
  • Ability to work well in a team environment with strong work ethic and commitment to continuous improvement
  • Bachelor’s degree in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science or medical technology; or equivalent laboratory training and experience meeting the requirements defined by CLIA; OR
  • Minimum 1 year experience with high complexity testing in HPLC, LC-MS and/or ELISA

Responsibilities

  • Performs all test realization functions in support of Biodesix products and services following all established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
  • Enters appropriate data into LIMS and associated lab systems
  • Basic maintenance and housekeeping of lab, laboratory equipment and supplies following SOPs
  • Assists in the creation and revision of Laboratory SOPs in the Quality Management System (QMS)
  • Contributes to the audit readiness through good documentation practices
  • Performs all job functions in accordance with HIPAA
  • Notifies management of any failures in test execution, processes, facilities and/or equipment, and may execute on minor corrections to address such issues under proper direction
  • Participates in Continuous Improvement Projects throughout Biodesix
  • Acts as a resource for questions from colleagues for areas in which competency is established
  • As approved by their manager, may voluntarily assist with cross-training teammates for areas in which competency is established
  • May participate in the execution of Laboratory Development Projects/Studies, on a voluntary and as needed basis, with approval from their manager
