As the Part-Time Laboratory Technician II serves as primary backup support for the organization’s Laboratory Technician. This position is responsible for independently operating laboratory equipment, processing specimens, and managing lab workflows during scheduled weekly shifts and when covering staff absences. The role is heavily focused on specimen processing and machine operation (75%+ of duties), with specimen collection as a secondary function.

Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalent required
Experience in laboratory, healthcare, or behavioral health preferred
Basic computer and documentation skills
Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain confidentiality

Responsibilities

Prepare laboratory equipment and workspace for daily operations
Process and analyze specimens using laboratory instrumentation
Run quality controls and ensure proper machine calibration
Accurately enter, review, and manage test results in the electronic system
Maintain strict adherence to laboratory protocols, CLIA standards, and safety regulations
Properly shut down, clean, and secure laboratory equipment at the end of each shift
Provide full lab coverage in the absence of the primary technician (e.g., illness, leave, vacation)
Maintain continuity of lab operations during extended absences (up to full workweeks as needed)
Ensure all lab processes are completed efficiently and without disruption
Perform specimen collection (e.g., urine drug screens) as needed
Maintain chain-of-custody procedures and confidentiality standards
Assist with basic inventory monitoring and supply restocking
Maintain readiness and competency to operate lab equipment independently
Demonstrate reliability and flexibility to cover scheduled and unscheduled absences
Participate in initial and ongoing training to maintain proficiency
