The Department for Public Health, Division of Laboratory Services, Preparedness Section is committed to enhancing the health and safety of Kentucky residents through prevention, promotion, and protection. This Laboratory Technician II position offers the opportunity to perform duties supporting critical, life-saving testing for various viral and bacterial diseases and heritable disorders. The Section supports essential testing conducted by DLS for submitting facilities across the state, ensuring that requested and mandated testing services are delivered to all citizens in the Commonwealth. The Division aims to help individuals improve their laboratory skills through advanced training in cutting-edge technologies. Each month, thousands of specimens are submitted to DLS, which is responsible for providing testing that adheres to strict regulations and tight turnaround times. This testing enables treatment to begin as early as possible for affected individuals, helping to eliminate or reduce the impact of infections, which could include permanent physical or mental disabilities or death. The division is seeking a Laboratory Technician II who will learn to perform container room processing, glassware sterilization, and operate an industrial autoclave for waste sterilization. Other responsibilities include supporting the scientific testing carried out by the testing team. The ideal candidate should be a quick learner, enthusiastic, motivated to excel, eager to improve systems, and proactive in keeping the team informed of issues. The successful candidate must be professional, courteous, detail-oriented, and knowledgeable about the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). This position is on-site; telecommuting is not available.
