Laboratory Technician I
About The Position
The Laboratory Technician I performs routine and non-routine chemical and/or metallurgical analytical tasks at the assigned site. The role may include collecting samples, including from rail cars or trucks at some locations, preparing samples for analysis using established tests and techniques, performing or assisting with routine analyses and reporting results, and maintaining laboratory instrumentation and equipment. Other duties may be required. The position is based at Freeport-McMoRan’s rod and refining plant in El Paso, Texas. Employees may be required to work a non-standard schedule, including shifts other than day shift, in a 24/7, 365-day operation. Candidates may be required to pass a medical exam and must pass all required training and testing. The company conducts mandatory pre-employment drug testing and ongoing drug and alcohol testing as allowed by law.
Requirements
- Demonstrated knowledge of math, chemistry, and/or computer skills appropriate to the assignment.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
- Must pass all required training and/or testing.
- May be required to pass a medical exam.
- Must comply with mandatory pre-employment and ongoing drug and alcohol testing, as allowed by applicable laws.
