About The Position

The Laboratory Technician will provide support for non-research biological science work or support work in various scientific and public health areas associated with numerous biological agents. The successful candidate will be a full-time employee of ASRT, Inc. and will be assigned to the Division of Core Laboratory Services and Response (DCLSR), National Center for Emerging and Zoonotic and Infectious Diseases (NCEZID), at the CDC, 1600 Clifton Road, Atlanta, GA.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in microbiology, biology, chemistry, basic medical science, or environmental laboratory science, or 2-5 years of equivalent experience
  • Experience working with established SOPs across molecular and microbiologist techniques.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint for the preparation of memos and reports.
  • Experience working with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
  • Must be a United States citizen or permanent resident or have authorization for employment in the United States.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience working in a similar role.
  • Previous experience with "chain of custody" materials and transfers.
  • Experience modifying methods based upon evaluation of research results.
  • Demonstrated skills and experience writing project reports, research protocols and manuscripts.
  • Specific detailed knowledge of quality systems and regulatory requirements, handling of clinical specimens, and aseptic techniques.
  • Knowledge of documentation for equipment calibration and validation.
  • Knowledge of quality systems and inventory software functions.

Responsibilities

  • Perform non-research biological science work or biological science support work in various scientific and public health areas associated with numerous biological agents.
  • Reference Reagent duties included but not limited: Management, maintenance and recordkeeping of the Inventory System consisting of a large number of various microbiological and immunological products, kits, and reagents.
  • Receive, review, and process orders or requests from state, federal, and local health departments, Laboratory Response Network laboratories, manufacturers, private hospitals, World Health Organization, and other institutions.
  • Provide reports and analysis to management within my division and throughout the CDC organization.
  • Manage reagents for the Laboratory Response Network (LRN), Influenza, Salmonella, and other divisions within the CDC.
  • Coordinate with subject matter experts (SME) and LRN for receipt of incoming inventory.
  • Provide technical guidance and assistance to others involved in the inventory management and supply functions.
  • Revise and implement processes and procedures as required to meet new and special demands, regulations, and/or changes within the branch or CDC.
  • Track labor, supplies, and reagents using forms, spread sheets, and/ or project databases.
