About The Position

This position assists with the maintenance and use of recirculating aquaculture systems, laboratory equipment, and associated components to ensure proper functionality and efficient operation. The role involves assisting with feeding, broodstock maintenance, egg collection, and egg quantification in support of aquaculture research activities. The technician will monitor and maintain the health and welfare of aquatic organisms, including oversight of water quality parameters and system conditions, and provide recommendations to improve maintenance and spawning of aquatic organisms. The position also includes participation in research activities and project objectives as assigned by the supervisor, collaborating effectively with faculty, staff, students, and laboratory personnel. Operating and driving state/UF vehicles may be required in support of research, maintenance, and operational activities. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in an appropriate area; or a high school diploma or equivalent and two years of related experience.
  • Appropriate college course work or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Education and/or experience in aquaculture or a closely related field.
  • Ability to effectively communicate research data and results through both oral presentations and written reports.
  • Fluency in both written and spoken English.
  • Proficiency with computer hardware and software applications, including word processing, spreadsheets, and database management.
