About The Position

Works in and maintains the lab area responsible for automated and manual DNA extraction procedures.

Requirements

  • 4- year Bachelor degree or higher in a Biological Science or related field.
  • Computer literacy of Microsoft Word and Excel and familiarity with LIMS and laboratory tracking software.
  • Education and understanding of basic molecular biology principles, including DNA extraction from biological samples.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-throughput environment with focus and attention to detail, with the goal of maintaining high standards of accuracy and precision in laboratory procedures.
  • Ability to maintain a standing position for the majority of the workday is a mandatory requirement for this role.
  • Must be able to occasionally reach overhead, at waist level, and at floor level as needed.
  • Must have the ability to occasionally lift and carry objects weighing up to 50lbs when operational needs require.
  • Ability to coordinate and communicate positively with team members to accomplish department goals.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in a molecular biology or clinical laboratory environment is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Works with automated liquid handlers and other automation to complete daily extraction of DNA from incoming laboratory samples
  • Responsible for sample management and tracking through the department, including management of the automated storage system for storage and retrieval of extracted samples
  • Performs quantification and quality assessment of samples as needed
  • Assists with preparation and maintenance of reagent stocks
  • Handles proper operation of automation for vial filling and sample sorting
  • Monitors and maintains supply inventories
  • Follows all laboratory procedures and policies, including quality control and quality system activities, and documents appropriately all records, deviations, and corrective actions as required
  • Assists with troubleshooting issues with assays, equipment, or procedures
  • Performs general laboratory maintenance, organization, and cleaning of the area
  • Assists with other laboratory procedures as necessary, including Receipt and accessioning of samples, Manual DNA extractions of non-standard samples, RNA extraction and Real-Time PCR assays for Respiratory Pathogen detection
