About The Position

FTAI company operates a state-of-the-art engine maintenance facility in Montreal, Canada that offers a comprehensive range of capabilities to support its customers in the aerospace industry, focusing primarily on engine maintenance, repair, and exchange (MRE). As a Laboratory Technician, you will play a key role in ensuring the quality and integrity of our coatings and materials. This position focuses on testing, quality assurance, and supporting process improvements in thermal spray, abradables, welding, chemical products and paint. You will work closely with engineering, production, and quality teams to maintain compliance with industry standards and optimize laboratory operations. This position is for the evening shift: Evening shift: Monday to Thursday, approximately 12:00 PM to 10:00 PM, offering long weekends every week.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree, technical diploma, or equivalent experience in materials science, metallurgy, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a similar laboratory or quality control role.
  • Proven proficiency with laboratory equipment such as hardness testers (Rockwell and Vickers), tensile testers, microscopes, and polishing machines.
  • Familiarity with Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDS), and X-ray Fluorescence (XRF) is a strong asset.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and organizational capabilities.
  • Proficient in laboratory software and documentation tools.
  • Knowledge of thermal spray and welding processes is highly desirable.
  • Bilingual in French and English is preferred.
  • Intermediate level knowledge of English is necessary for aeronautical personnel to meet regulatory requirements, understand technical procedures and instructions, and document entries regarding work performed on the aeronautical product for customers outside Quebec.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine and advanced laboratory tests, including Rockwell and Vickers hardness tests, bond strength, adhesion, and tensile pull tests.
  • Prepare and analyze samples for microstructure evaluation, ensuring high precision and repeatability.
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, including calibration and troubleshooting.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to document and implement process improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with AS9100, NADCAP, and other industry standards for thermal spray and welding applications.
  • Manage laboratory areas, including equipment maintenance, supply ordering, and cleanliness.
  • Prepare detailed technical reports and maintain test result databases.
  • Provide training and support to thermal spray technicians to minimize non-conformance and maximize output.
  • Assist in root-cause analysis (CAPA) and preventive maintenance programs.
