About The Position

As a Laboratory Technician 1 within Washington State University, College of Veterinary Medicine Washington Animal Disease Diagnotistic Laboratory (WADDL), you will contribute directly to laboratory operations by processing biological samples and preparing microbiological assays to detect pathogenic bacteria. You will also set up fecal flotation samples to identify avian parasites and ensure accurate test ordering, data entry, and results reporting within the laboratory information management system (LIMS). As part of your daily work, you will support safe and efficient lab operations by performing routine maintenance tasks such as autoclaving biohazardous waste, restocking supplies, preparing reagents and media, and carrying out general preventative maintenance on laboratory equipment. You are expected to be eligible for work in a BSL-2 laboratory and to understand and consistently follow BSL-2 safety guidelines while working in a regulated laboratory environment.

Requirements

  • Completion of an approved course by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists for laboratory assistants OR two years of chemical, or clinical or public health laboratory experience.
  • Training in medical technology or education in college with courses in laboratory sciences may be substituted, year for year, for experience.
  • Ability to work overtime and rotate on holidays, if necessary.
  • Physical eligibility required for working in a BSL-2 environment.
