About The Position

Performs specimen procurement and/or processing of laboratory specimens. Provides laboratory support functions. Organizes and performs tasks efficiently to meet departmental turnaround time standards. Performs computer data entry, laboratory processes including sterile technique, aliquoting and/or phlebotomy. Processes specimens for laboratory testing. Competent in the collection or processing of specialized samples. Performs with minimal error rate. Acts as a trainer and is a resource to other Specimen Processor Phlebotomists. Needs minimal supervision and problems solves with little or no supervision. Performs other duties as assigned. Complies with all policies and standards. For specific duties and responsibilities, refer to documentation provided by the department during orientation. Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace. This position is PRN. The shift will be evenings and will start at 2:30 PM or 3:00 PM. Will provide coverage for UH employees on PTO, LOA and staffing shortages in the department. Inpatient population. Location is Elyria Medical Center.

Requirements

  • High School Equivalent / GED required
  • 1+ years phlebotomy experience required
  • 1+ years specimen processing experience required
  • Initiates and maintains positive relationships with patients, customers, co-workers.
  • Takes responsibility for self-development.
  • Working knowledge of pre-analytic laboratory and safety policies and procedures.
  • Displays initiative to perform job duties.
  • Ability to work in fast paced environment.
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Ability to work effectively within role independently and with other team members.
  • Competent on venipuncture, heel stick, and fingerstick for all ages.

Nice To Haves

  • Other Accredited Program: Formal Training from an accredited phlebotomy school or medical assistant program preferred.
  • Less than 1 year Funding Healthcare Futures Program Participant (entry level) (Required).
  • Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) Phlebotomy Certification Preferred Upon Hire.
