Employer: BioReliance Corporation 400 Summit Drive Burlington, Massachusetts 01803 Job Site: 9820 Darnestown Road Rockville, Maryland 20850 Telecommuting available once a week, but the candidate must reside within commuting distance of the Rockville MD area to be available at the laboratory. Position: Laboratory Supervisors 2 Job Duties: Document scientific observations and coordinate all activities associated with day-to-day laboratory operations. Periodically evaluate laboratory procedures, system controls and technical documentation such as SOPs and batch records to ensure compliance. Serve as a Supervisory team lead for two groups of assay families within the molecular lab operations department including one group that runs Sanger sequencing, and another group that performs breakthrough techniques replacing animal testing with a combination of QPCR and targeted Next Generation Sequencing, by managing the use and maintenance of complex scientific equipment, instrumentation, and computer systems and ensuring that they are kept in a calibrated / validated state and part 11 compliant. Lead site visits (Technical and QA), complete client requests, and address audit findings in a timely manner while serving as a point of contact for safety walkthroughs conducted by the site’s leadership team. Provide direct supervision to Associate Scientists and/or Laboratory Technicians, and meet with direct reports to set goals, conduct regular one-on-one discussions with employees, ensure development plans are in place for all employees, address personnel issues promptly, interview and hire new candidates and complete performance reviews fairly and on-time. Participate in division-wide initiatives including Quality systems improvements, trans-divisional SOPs revisions, Lean projects, etc. Present lab specific metrics and other key performance indicators (KPI) to site leadership on a weekly basis. Act as a point of contact for departmental training, ensuring training modules are up to date and the training matrix reflects staff capabilities, and work directly with R&D teams for targeted Next Gen Sequencing (tNGS) assay transfer, costing analysis and other operational readiness activities. Liaise with product managers for tNGS Blazar™ assay transfer to ensure operational readiness. Schedule the conduct of assays by lab staff and coordinate the scheduling samples to be tested. Act as the study management/ responsible person on the release of test results in a GMP study when necessary. Liaise with Quality Assurance and appropriate cross-functional departmental areas to close the events and corrective actions identified during GxP laboratory testing. Requirements & Qualifications: The Employer requires a Master’s degree in Biotechnology or related field and two (2) years of work experience as a team lead in a molecular laboratory department. Additionally, the successful candidate must have: (1) Demonstrated ability managing the use and maintenance of scientific equipment including automated robots and instrumentation, computer systems while ensuring that they are kept in a calibrated / validated state and part 11 compliant gained through two (2) years of work experience; (2) Demonstrated ability writing SOPs utilizing scientific writing skills along with deviation/investigation writing, as well as documenting scientific observations gained through two (2) years of work experience; (3) Demonstrated knowledge of compliance of studies under the principles of GXP gained through two (2) years of work experience; (4) Demonstrated ability training peers and leading a team in Molecular Lab department gained through two (2) years of work experience; (5) Demonstrated ability participating in division-wide initiatives including process improvement projects gained through two (2) years of work experience; (6) Demonstrated ability tracking and managing reagents and materials for the Blazar™ assay method gained through two (2) years of work experience; and (7) Demonstrated ability working with novel technologies such as the targeted NGS Blazar™ assay using Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) analysis methods gained through two (2) years of work experience. Or Alternatively: Employer requires a Bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology or related field plus four (4) years of work experience as a team lead in a molecular laboratory department. Responsibilities
