Laboratory Supervisor, Flexible Packaging

Our capabilities include 3-, 5-, and 9-layer film extrusion, 10-color flexographic printing, solvent and solventless lamination, in-house plate making, slitting, and pouch converting to deliver innovative, high-quality packaging solutions. The Laboratory Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily activities of the QA laboratory, ensuring accurate and timely analytical evaluations of packaging materials produced in accordance with ASTM and internal test methods. This role works closely with Lab QA Technicians, Production teams, the Technical Product Development team, and the Factory QA team to maintain quality standards, address quality deviations, and support technical initiatives. The Laboratory Supervisor manages lab personnel, equipment, procedures, and communication related to quality performance.
Requirements
- Strong leadership and people management skills.
- Excellent planning, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Critical investigative thinking and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, etc.) and ability to work with laboratory information systems.
- Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and communicate effectively at all levels.
- Strong understanding of laboratory safety practices and quality control standards.
- Degree in a technical or scientific field is required
- 5–10 years of experience in a technical laboratory role, preferably in flexible packaging.
Nice To Haves
- Prior supervisory experience in a lab environment strongly preferred.
Responsibilities
- Manage and supervise QA Lab Technicians on shift, including hiring, training, scheduling, and performance management.
- Ensure all laboratory personnel are properly trained on procedures, equipment, and safety protocols.
- Support investigations of quality issues in production and customer complaints, documenting findings and recommending corrective actions.
- Oversee preparation of Certificates of Analysis (COAs) for customers and internal use.
- Ensure non-conforming products are identified, documented, and addressed in accordance with company policy.
- Coordinate quality communication triggers to meet operational and business needs.
- Support research and development activities to facilitate product innovation and business growth.
- Develop special test protocols or methods as needed to meet production or technical requirements.
- Review and manage product specifications, test protocols, and testing frequencies to ensure compliance with internal and external requirements.
- Maintain lab equipment, supplies, and work areas to ensure readiness and compliance with quality standards.
