About The Position

Bureau Veritas is seeking a Laboratory Supervisor to lead a team within their environmental testing laboratory. This is a hands-on leadership role that involves people management, operational oversight, data review, and quality assurance. The supervisor will be responsible for ensuring efficient laboratory operations, accurate and defensible analytical results, and consistent achievement of turnaround times. The role involves leading a team of approximately five employees and collaborating with laboratory staff, project managers, sample logistics, quality assurance, and other laboratory leaders to maintain productivity, support continuous improvement, and foster a collaborative team environment. This is a fully onsite position located in Bedford, Nova Scotia.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, or a related scientific discipline. Equivalent combinations of education and relevant laboratory experience will be considered.
  • Experience working with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Comfortable reviewing analytical data and working within established quality systems to ensure accuracy, reliability, and compliance.
  • Understanding of regulated laboratory environments.
  • Familiarity with laboratory workflows, quality standards, and production expectations.
  • Leadership experience in a laboratory environment (formal, acting, project-based, or team lead).
  • Comfortable coordinating work, supporting peers, and contributing to smooth day-to-day operations.
  • Collaborative, proactive, and adaptable professional.

Responsibilities

  • Support sample reception operations, including receiving, unpacking, organizing, and processing environmental samples, ensuring accurate documentation and timely entry into laboratory systems.
  • Lead and develop the team by recruiting, coaching, mentoring, and supporting employees, fostering engagement, accountability, and professional growth.
  • Drive laboratory operations by managing daily workflows, monitoring production targets, coordinating staffing priorities, and ensuring turnaround times are achieved.
  • Ensure quality and accuracy by reviewing and validating analytical data, supporting quality systems, and ensuring compliance with laboratory procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Support continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to improve processes, efficiency, and productivity, and contributing to the department's long-term growth strategy.
  • Champion safety and compliance by promoting a strong safety culture, ensuring adherence to health and safety requirements, and supporting quality assurance programs and audits.
