As a Laboratory Supervisor / Technician, you will be responsible for leading laboratory activities during assigned shifts, ensuring accurate testing, quality compliance, and alignment with production objectives. The position combines hands-on laboratory work with shift leadership, process monitoring, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Requirements

  • Post-Secondary education in Metallurgy, Material Science or Engineering
  • Experience in steel manufacturing preferred
  • 2-3 years’ experience working in a similar environment; previous lab experience preferred
  • Previous supervisory or leadership experience is considered as a strong asset
  • Knowledge of ASTM standards, testing methods, and procedures
  • Ability to work independently and within a team
  • Fantastic trouble shooting, and problems solving skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support laboratory operations during assigned shifts, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality performance
  • Supervise and guide employees during the assigned shift, providing direction, support, and oversight of daily activities. Coordinate shift schedules, assign responsibilities, and ensure effective coverage across lab and production support activities
  • Perform laboratory analyses at all stages of manufacturing to support quality control of raw materials and finished products
  • Ensure all sampling, analytical, and monitoring equipment is properly maintained and operating reliably
  • Maintain accurate test records, including start-up and production data
  • Support production teams to ensure compliance with quality management system requirements
  • Implement and monitor laboratory testing practices in accordance with ASTM standards and Tenaris internal procedures
  • Maintain systems and documentation required to support ISO 17025 laboratory certification
  • Analyze QA/QC data to assess product quality and identify improvement opportunities
  • Participate in troubleshooting and resolution of technical and process-related issues
  • Conduct metallurgical analyses, including failure investigations of mill equipment
  • Support plant trials and testing to determine root causes and identify process improvements
  • Contribute to initiatives focused on productivity improvement, scrap reduction, cost savings, and process optimization
  • Monitor key process indicators (e.g., productivity, utilization, downtime, rejections) and drive performance improvements
  • Assist in the development and implementation of procedures and work instructions
