About The Position

Supervise and coordinate the technical operations of the assigned cost center to ensure that accurate and timely laboratory services are provided to assist physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. Develop and implement policies and procedures for assigned area. Ensure compliance with Shands Jacksonville Policies and Procedures. Provide supervision and leadership to the staff. Work closely with other supervisors to coordinate laboratory functions. Prepare and manage assigned cost center budget. Schedule staff and make workstation assignments. Work as a technologist when necessary. Ensure all regulatory, licensing and accreditation requirements are fulfilled for assigned areas. Perform all assigned duties in a caring and professional manner to serve as a model to create an environment where the patient and the customer are of primary importance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree. Associate's Degree with +8y relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of Bachelor's Degree.
  • Florida licensed as a Clinical Laboratory Supervisor in assigned area within three (3) months of hire or transfer.
  • Over 5 years - Technologist, Histocompatibility Technologist, Histotechnologist or Cytotechnologist.
  • Supervisory responsibility of 30 employees.
  • Responsible for annual budget of $2,500,000.00.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work well under pressure to complete deadlines.
  • Demonstrate appropriate computer skills.
  • Technically competent in principles and procedures of assigned laboratory disciplines.
  • Understanding of laboratory regulatory issues.
  • Age of Patients Served: All Age Groups.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise the day-to-day technical operations of assigned cost center to maximize service while minimizing cost. Ensure that accurate, adequate laboratory services are provided timely. Use knowledge, experience and imagination to implement change and improvements.
  • Oversee the receipt, prioritizing and the acceptance/rejection of specimens. Perform moderate to high complexity procedures in hematology, chemistry, microbiology, serology, immunohematology, histocompatibility, histology, cytology and molecular areas of laboratory to provide data for the use in treatment and diagnosis of disease. Operate and maintain complicated laboratory analyzers. Make independent decisions to report normal and abnormal test results.
  • In concert with the Medical Director and Technical Manager monitor and revise the Laboratory Quality Plan. Implement quality and service improvements. Report and respond to all technical laboratory incidents, errors or complaints in a timely manner. Ensure all regulatory, licensing, safety and accreditation requirements are fulfilled for assigned cost center.
  • Write, review and implement cost center policies and procedures for approval by the Medical or Administrative Director. Ensure that Shands Jacksonville policies are enforced. Perform personnel action including hiring recommendations, performance evaluations and disciplinary actions. Oversee and complete payroll functions. Schedule staff and make workstation assignments.
  • Ensure that laboratory staff are supported and prepared to serve our customers. Develop self and individuals to optimize effectiveness. Assist with and monitor student educational activities. Provide clinical instruction assist in testing and evaluation of students. Assist in training new employees.
  • Represent laboratory management in meetings and on committees. Work cooperatively with others to achieve organizational goals. Perform all assigned duties in a caring and professional manner, serving as a model to create a customer focused environment.
  • Prepare, implement and control the cost center budget in conjunction with the Laboratory Administrative Director. Evaluate analyzer and procedures to recommend for capital purchase.
  • Rotate weekend supervisor call coverage.
  • Attend staff meetings and complete mandatory training.
  • Adhere to dress code, core values, policies & procedures, time & attendance guidelines and confidentiality.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned by management within job scope.
