About The Position

Labcorp is seeking a Specimen Accessioner/Processor to join its team at Henry Ford St. John in Detroit, Michigan. This role works in a high-volume, production-based environment and performs an important component of clinical laboratory science. The employee prepares, identifies, routes, stores, and ships laboratory specimens, enters patient information, and documents specimen issues. The work schedule is 10:30 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., 2–3 rotating days per week, including every other weekend.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Comfort handling biological specimens.
• Ability to accurately identify specimens.
• Ability to work in a team environment.
• Strong data-entry and organizational skills.
• High level of attention to detail.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
• Ability to pass a standardized color blindness test.

Nice To Haves

• Six months or more of experience in a medical or production environment.

Responsibilities

• Prepare laboratory specimens for analysis and testing.
• Unpack specimens and route them to their respective staging areas.
• Accurately identify and label specimens.
• Pack and ship specimens to the proper testing facilities.
• Meet department activity and production goals.
• Properly prepare and store excess specimen samples.
• Enter patient information accurately and promptly.
• Resolve and document problem specimens.
