About The Position

As the Laboratory Service Specialist, you will be a vital member of a dynamic team responsible for obtaining and verifying patient demographic information, insurance, and other information for various hospital records. You will greet patients, relatives, or patient representatives to gather and record demographic information for various laboratory records and provision of care. This role functions as the communication center of Laboratory Services by routing people and telephone calls appropriately. You will interpret and replicate written physician requests into the lab system quickly and accurately with minimum of supervision.

Requirements

• Valid driver’s license and proof of current liability insurance as well as reliable vehicle required
• Computer literacy required
• High school graduate or equivalent

Nice To Haves

• Knowledge of Healthcare insurance preferred
• Knowledge of Medical Terminology preferred.
• Experience with computer entry, customer service and medical office preferred.

Responsibilities

• Greets and interviews patients to obtain required information to complete the registration check before placing orders in the Laboratory Information System. Knows over 1,300 alpha codes in the LIS for order entry of the physician’s order.
• Knows where to locate standing orders, faxed orders, previously ordered (i.e., Oncology) and pre-employment orders from Employee Health.
• Answers all incoming calls and transfers to appropriate person/Lab department in a timely courteous manner.
• Is aware of locations of off-site service centers and courier runs so that patients can access Lab services efficiently and cost-effectively.
• Distributes Lab reports appropriately.
• Maintains Order Facilitator through indexing electronic requisitions and archiving/scanning billed orders
• Resolves problems and discrepancies from previous days work.
• Follow up on incomplete registrations by contacting Physician office or patient at home to get complete information, including diagnosis for ABNs
