About The Position

Under the general direction and guidance from the Chief of Laboratory Services (CLS), the Senior Clinical Specialist serves as the primary designee for clinical and technical duties as designated. This role is crucial for maintaining the quality, compliance, and efficiency of laboratory testing.

Requirements

Meets the personnel requirements for CLIA General Supervisor for High Complexity Testing.
Have earned a doctoral, master’s, or bachelor’s degree in a chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution.
ACHI CHS or CHT certification and 5+ years HLA Laboratory experience required.
Minimum five years high-complexity clinical laboratory experience required.
Maintain competency as non-testing personnel and maintain continuing education requirements either by holding a current ACHI certification or obtain 27 hours of continuing education each year.
A minimum of 50% of these hours must be directly related to the science and application of histocompatibility and/or immunogenetics testing.
Ability to work a minimum of 40 hours per week and participate in 24-hour call.
Must maintain a valid driver’s license in accordance with MTN motor vehicle policy.
Must have reliable automobile transportation to be used with company reimbursement using IRS guidelines.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated ability to provide direction and achieve cooperation from others.
Strong organization and time management skills; ability to function independently and collaboratively; excellent initiative, problem solving and decision-making skills and well-developed personal stress management skills.
Ability to lift 50 pounds and transfer short distances.
Possess ability to operate telephones, computers and lab equipment.
Ability to speak and communicate clearly in order to accurately convey information in person or by phone.
OSHA Category II – Occasional exposure to bloodborne pathogens while performing assigned job duties.
Bloodborne pathogens protection is required.
Home internet and wireless phone access is required.

Responsibilities

Serves as a CLIA General Supervisor and director designee (non-doctoral) for the CLIA Director.
Performs clinical record review as designated by laboratory leadership.
Participates in quality control, quality assurance, quality improvement, regulatory compliance, safety and productivity of the testing performed.
Provides support and assistance with resolving clinical issues to laboratory staff.
Monitors test performance to determine trends, biases and other potential test system problems.
Ensures that remedial actions are taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications.
Ensures that no patient/client results are reported until remedial actions are taken when test systems are not functioning properly.
Reviews and evaluates proficiency testing and/or alternative assessment reports in subspecialty area.
Signs proficiency testing attestation statements on survey result forms for high and/or moderate complexity testing if needed.
Provides technical guidance and evaluation of test methodology performance studies (such as calibration verification, method comparison, AMR verification, accuracy and precision studies, etc.) to meet established performance requirements to support CLIA Director.
Participates in completion of system/method verifications and validations by providing subject matter expertise and technical guidance to lab staff as delegated by CLIA Director.
Demonstrates advanced scientific and technical knowledge of assays and instruments utilized in the department.
Provide clinical support for clients as necessary to meet client needs and maintain high levels of service.
Participates in on-call services to support clients and laboratory staff.
Maintains professional relationships and rapport with MTN leadership and as well as with partners outside of the organization.
Participates in departmental growth and improvement activities including but not limited to review of procedures, validations, and/or special projects.
Identifies and reports problems which may adversely affect test performance and patient outcome to Laboratory leadership in a timely manner.
Responsible for other duties and projects as assigned or delegated by the CLS.
