About The Position

The Medical Technologist Supervisor provides leadership and expertise in the following areas where applicable to the positions: Clinical testing, Phlebotomy, Client Services, Billing and other lab support functions. The Medical Technologist Supervisor monitors all aspects of operations including daily monitoring of team member schedules, job performance and productivity; oversight of quality and safety standards; and compliance with regulatory requirements.

This role is for the upcoming VCU Health Chesterfield Pavilion, a new ambulatory surgery center and medical office building scheduled to open in April 2027. The facility will offer comprehensive outpatient care, including surgical services, diagnostics, infusion therapy, and pharmacy services. We are hiring team members now to help build this new facility from the ground up.

Requirements

• Current Certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) by the National Credentialing Agency (NCA) or American Medical Technologists (AMT) National Certifying Agency or equivalent ASCP categorical certification.
• Individuals with required Credential Maintenance: technical positions that require certification maintenance, team members must obtain the number CE hours as required by The Board of Certification Credential Maintenance Program (CMP).
• Individuals with ASCP certification prior to January 1, 2004, are not required to participate in the certification maintenance program.
• Current Certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) by the National Credentialing Agency (NCA) or American Medical Technologists (AMT) National Certifying Agency or equivalent ASCP categorical certification
• Team Members with required Credential Maintenance: technical positions that require certification maintenance, team members must obtain the number CE hours as required by The Board of Certification Credential Maintenance Program (CMP).
• Minimum of four (4) years of clinical work experience as a Medical Technologist
• At least three (3) years of Senior or Lead level experience with increased responsibilities and expanded job duties.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Clinical Laboratory Science (BSCLS) from an accredited program OR a Bachelor's Degree in a Biological Science in addition to graduation from an NAACLS-accredited CLS/MT certificate program OR Bachelor’s Degree in a Biological Science with 10 or more years of on the job training in a hospital health care environment in a specific lab discipline performing high complexity testing in blood banking, chemistry, hematology, microbiology, immunology and clinical microscopy (categorical or generalist certification required).

• Technically, the MT Supervisor will be responsible for clinical testing and results reporting in all areas where training and verification of competency are attained
• Coordinate test schedules, quality control procedures, troubleshooting, maintenance of procedure manuals, training and documentation, and inventory control in his/her primary areas of responsibility
• Consistently demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Demonstrate a strong and energetic commitment to the laboratory’s mission of efficiency and quality
• Consistently act as a positive role model for peers and other coworkers
