About The Position
The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine is seeking a Laboratory Research Assistant. This department is dedicated to understanding life at the biochemical, genetic, and cellular levels, aiming to make discoveries that advance knowledge of cellular systems and translate findings from the lab to clinical applications. A key goal is also to educate future scientists and physician investigators.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science degree in biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology, or a related field to cancer research.
- Research experience with mammalian cell culture.
- Research experience with mouse study.
- Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 undergraduate college credits being equivalent to one year of related experience. In instances where specific education and/or experience is required only directly related education and/or experience may be substituted.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine laboratory maintenance and research activities, including general housekeeping, Western blot assays, ELISA assays, cell viability assays, cell migration assays, DNA transfection, preparing solutions and buffers, cell cultures, and mouse studies.
- Assist with literature research and maintenance of a laboratory notebook.
- Edit and prepare manuscripts for publication.
- Perform administrative duties and assist other laboratory technicians.
- Assist in developing policies, procedures, and methods for laboratory experimentation.
- Order supplies.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
