About The Position

Receives, prepares, and processes all specimens delivered to the laboratory. This role involves registering patients, accurately entering test orders into the laboratory information system, and verifying specimen identification. The processor will prepare and process specimens according to department procedures, maintain work area cleanliness, and ensure adequate supplies. Additionally, the role provides support functions such as answering phones, faxing reports, and managing send-outs. The processor will also operate and maintain instrumentation, recognizing and addressing any problems. A component of this role includes mentoring MLA students in specimen processing.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 months experience in a clinical laboratory setting
  • Medical terminology
  • Experience acquired in conjunction with a training or degree program
  • Adheres to ethical and legal standards and behavioral expectations as set forth in the code of business conduct and company policies.
  • Complies with HIPAA as described in the Notice of Privacy Practices and Privacy Policies and Procedures.
  • Complies with all data security guidelines established within the Company’s Handbook of Privacy Policies and Practices and Information Security Policy.
  • Complies with the company’s Code of Business Conduct.
  • Adheres to applicable federal and state laws, rules, and regulations as well as company policies and training requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Registers patients and performs test order entry into laboratory information system accurately and efficiently to ensure proper testing and charges of patient account.
  • Verifies specimen identification and prepares and processes specimens according to department procedures and protocols.
  • Maintains the cleanliness of the work area and adequate supplies for efficient laboratory operations.
  • Provides support such as answering telephones, faxing reports, and send-outs.
  • Operates and maintains instrumentation, recognizes problems and takes appropriate action.
  • Mentors MLA students in specimen processing utilizing WPAHS policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.
