About The Position

Nebraska Medicine is seeking a Laboratory Processing Technician for their Laboratory Specimen Management Team. This role is ideal for college students or recent graduates looking to gain healthcare experience. The Specimen Management Assistant is responsible for receiving, evaluating, accessioning, processing, storing, and distributing patient specimens for laboratory testing. This includes ensuring that incoming patient samples meet pre-analytical testing requirements and resolving any specimen issues before testing. The role requires organizing workload for maximum efficiency, accuracy, and to maintain the quality and timeliness of patient testing. Additionally, the position involves projecting a professional image through all communications with internal and external customers.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 18 years of age required
  • High school education or equivalent required
  • Possess strong trouble shooting abilities to identify, evaluate and correct problems related to specimen quality, integrity, and appropriateness for requested orders required
  • Ability to concentrate for long periods of time, utilize good judgment, work accurately under pressure and handle stress to meet deadlines required
  • Computer experience required

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in clinical laboratory medicine preferred
  • Direct patient care experience preferred
  • Post-secondary education in a laboratory or health-related field preferred
  • Knowledge of medical terminology preferred

Responsibilities

  • Receiving, evaluating, accessioning, processing, storage and distributing of patient specimens for lab testing
