Laboratory Manager – Preclinical Sciences
About The Position
The Institute for Integrative & Innovative Research (I³R) at the University of Arkansas is seeking a highly motivated Laboratory Manager to support the operation and continued development of its Preclinical Sciences research laboratories. The successful candidate will provide hands-on laboratory and operational support for multidisciplinary biomedical and preclinical research. Key responsibilities will include cell culture and routine experimental activities, laboratory organization, equipment management, development and maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), experimental documentation, and implementation of good laboratory practices. The position will also contribute to the continued development of laboratory documentation and quality systems to support the future expansion of I³R's preclinical research capabilities, including preparation for future GLP-aligned research activities. Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biology, Biochemistry, Biomedical Sciences, Biotechnology, or a closely related scientific discipline from an accredited institution of higher education.
- At least two years of relevant hands-on laboratory research experience in an academic, biomedical, clinical, biotechnology, pharmaceutical, or related research environment.
- Hands-on experience with mammalian cell culture and routine laboratory techniques.
- Experience following experimental protocols and maintaining accurate laboratory records and documentation.
- Experience with laboratory equipment operation, maintenance, organization, and/or coordination.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary research environment.
- Knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), Good Documentation Practices (GDP), or laboratory quality systems.
- Knowledge of Biosafety Level 2 (BSL-2) laboratory practices and biological safety procedures.
- Proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment.
Nice To Haves
- Experience with Western blotting/protein electrophoresis.
- Experience with immunofluorescence and microscopy-based techniques.
- Experience with live-cell imaging or image-based analysis platforms, such as Incucyte, ChemiDoc, ImageJ, or comparable systems.
- Experience with cell-based experimental assays and biomedical research.
- Experience developing, revising, or implementing laboratory SOPs, protocols, and experimental documentation.
- Experience coordinating laboratory schedules, equipment, supplies, and day-to-day laboratory activities.
- Experience training or providing technical support to students or research personnel.
- Biosafety Level 2 (BSL-2) laboratory practices and biological safety procedures.
- Laboratory inventory management, procurement, vendor coordination, equipment service contracts, and maintenance scheduling.
