About The Position

Join the Baxter Lab as a Laboratory Manager and play a key role in advancing innovative research in a collaborative and fast-paced environment. This position oversees and coordinates the day-to-day technical and administrative operations of the laboratory, helping drive efficiency, organization, and standardization across lab activities. In addition to laboratory management responsibilities, the Laboratory Manager actively contributes to ongoing research programs through hands-on technical work and operational support. This role works closely with faculty leadership to ensure seamless laboratory operations, foster collaboration, and support the success of the lab’s scientific mission.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in science-related field from an accredited college/university required.
  • Minimum of Three (3) years of job-related experience required.
  • Must have working knowledge of all laboratory operations.
  • Must demonstrate strong technical skills relevant to the assigned laboratory.
  • Must show an aptitude for detail-oriented work, and exhibit a high level of precision and dexterity.
  • Competency in performing the duties of reporting staff.
  • Must exhibit leadership qualities and good communication skills.
  • Must have extensive knowledge of laboratory operations and procedures, and be able to maintain laboratory information management system, quality control, safety, and attention to detail as well as provide technical guidance and advice to assigned employees.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manage, supervise, and lead the day-to-day activities of assigned employees.
  • Plan work schedules, assign tasks, coordinate workload, and provide priorities.
  • Develop, initiate and lead work projects for the development and implementation of process improvements, and policies and procedures that promote Texas Biomed’s core values and align with strategic goals.
  • Coach, mentor, motivate and lead assigned Texas Biomed employees influencing them to take positive action and be accountable for assigned responsibilities.
  • Support personal and career development opportunities and advancement.
  • Provide guidance and make recommendations concerning talent acquisition and retention, employee relations and employment terminations, performance management (promotions, demotions, reviews, salary adjustments) for relevant teams.
  • Assist leaders in identifying opportunities to streamline, improve, and/or automate business processes while actively implementing changes as needed.
  • Maintain regular communication with leaders and reporting employees related to upcoming tasks and deadlines, and assist as needed.
  • Ensure that routine reports such as biweekly timesheets, safety briefing records and progress reports are submitted on a timely basis.
  • Coordinate the ordering of supplies for all persons assigned to the laboratory.
  • Act as liaison as necessary between the assigned laboratory and the principal investigators and support staff personnel in collaborating laboratories.
  • Coordinate with the Office of Sponsored Programs concerning expenditures and related budget details for ongoing programs and proposals for new work.
  • Coordinate with the Texas Biomedical Research Institute Human Resources Office concerning the procurement of technical staff members for the laboratory.
  • May coordinate with the Texas Biomedical Research Institute Quality Assurance office concerning the laboratory operations that are covered by the Good Laboratory Practices Act.
  • Maintain a close working relationship with institutional leaders.
