About The Position

Under direction from the Laboratory Head, the Laboratory Manager will perform research and lab administration in the Laboratory of Host-Pathogen Biology at Rockefeller University. Our lab has developed novel CRISPR-based tools for functional genomics in the globally important pathogen, Mycobacterium tuberculosis. At Rockefeller, you will join a dynamic research team to investigate the mechanisms that enable this bacterium to cause disease and evade current antibiotics, with the long-term goal of developing new strategies to improve control of this pandemic.

Requirements

  • Master’s in Microbiology or a closely related field (or a foreign degree equivalent)
  • 2 years of experience with management and coordination of multi-institutional, internationally funded tuberculosis research projects (grant compliance, progress reporting, and laboratory team coordination).
  • Proficiency in tuberculosis molecular microbiology and genetic analysis.
  • Ability to conduct research in high-containment biosafety level-3 (BSL-3) laboratory.
  • Skills with molecular assay development for antibiotic-resistance studies, and microbiological and analytical techniques (DNA and RNA extraction, quantitative PCR, electrophoresis, protein analysis, and flow cytometry).
  • Ability to develop and optimize laboratory-based diagnostic and experimental assays for tuberculosis research.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and advance research on the biology of Mycobacteria, focusing on functional genomics, antibiotic resistance, and host–pathogen interactions.
  • Integrate experimental design, laboratory compliance, and grant administration.
  • Conduct CRISPRi-based genetic perturbation experiments and functional genomics studies to investigate mycobacterial biology.
  • Perform molecular cloning, PCR, gene expression analysis, DNA/RNA isolation, deep sequencing, and metabolomics.
  • Develop and optimize new experimental protocols and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Analyze and interpret data, contributing to publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
  • Handle daily operations of a research laboratory.
  • Handle project management, including managing expenditures and ensuring compliance with funding agencies.
  • Prepare financial justifications and grant compliance documentation for institutional and sponsor requirements.
  • Coordinate multi-disciplinary teams in preparing and submitting research grant proposals.
