Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • American Society for Clinical Pathology Certification (ASCP) or equivalent
  • New York State Department of Education Clinical Laboratory Technologist License
  • Meets all requirements of the New York State Department of Health for a Laboratory Supervisor
  • Minimum of 4 years’ progressive clinical laboratory experience or 2 years of experience with a Master’s degree or 1 year of experience with a Ph.D.
  • Experience with regulatory aspects of practice
  • Knowledge of Molecular Testing Methods

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree
  • Advanced clinical experience within Cytogenetics + Molecular Pathology
  • Supervisory/Managerial experience in a clinical laboratory
  • ASCP certification

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and prepare for site visits by accrediting/regulatory agencies.
  • Manage and oversee laboratory personnel to ensure effective operations.
  • Provide work direction, assign work, answer job related questions, orient new personnel, and oversee on-the-job training, and education of interns, residents, and fellows.
  • Complete performance evaluations and take appropriate personnel actions to ensure adequate staff coverage.
  • Design and implement appropriate quality control programs and conduct follow-up to ensure effectiveness of clinical laboratory activities.
  • Prepare the annual department operating and capital budget for approval, monitor and reconcile expenditure of funds, compile information related to laboratory operations and prepare regular narrative and statistical reports to submit to the Medical Director or appropriate others.
