About The Position

The Department of Chemistry at the University of Pittsburgh (Oakland Campus) invites applications for one Laboratory Instructor position with an anticipated start date of 15 August 2026. This position is for two (2), two-term academic years (nine-month contract) and is renewable subject to departmental evaluation. The position is outside of the tenure stream and will require administrative and budgetary approval. Review of applications will occur as they are received and will continue until the position is filled. Requirements

  • Master's degree in an appropriate discipline from an accredited university
  • At least 5 years of university-level teaching experience
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in support of a diverse community

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with teaching large-enrollment university-level chemistry courses

Responsibilities

  • Providing instructions in Lab and Lecture settings
  • Assisting the development of curricula and course materials
  • Leading laboratory sections within the undergraduate teaching program
  • Teaching 18 credit hours over the academic year (typically corresponding to four large-enrollment courses, or six low-enrollment courses or eight lab sections per academic year)
  • Contributions to the development and improvement of the undergraduate curriculum
  • Serving on departmental and university committees
  • Assisting with the necessary administrative aspects of a vibrant and large undergraduate instructional program
