About The Position

AOCUSA is hiring a Lab Director in California for the First Shift (6:00 AM – 2:30 PM), Monday – Friday, with weekends as needed. Amalie Oil Company, a leading independent blender of motor oils and industrial lubricants, is seeking a talented individual to join their growing team. The Lab Director will be the principal laboratory analyst, responsible for supervising, training, and providing technical guidance to laboratory employees. This role involves performing professional laboratory work, including research and quantitative physical and chemical testing of lubricants, greases, and related automotive and industrial chemicals. The incumbent will supervise and participate in the work of a centralized chemical laboratory to support production and perform related duties as required.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of direct experience within the automotive and industrial lubricant and grease industry
  • Excellent knowledge and experience with grease formulation, testing, and manufacturing
  • Proficient skills in Microsoft Office, including Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel
  • Excellent customer service and problem-solving skills
  • High quality organizational skills
  • The ability to work well under deadlines and to multitask
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Bachelors’ Degree in a science field or 8+ years laboratory experience with increasing responsibility

Nice To Haves

  • 10+ years of supervisory experience
  • Previous administrative experience preferred
  • Knowledge of the structure and uses of lubricants and greases

Responsibilities

  • Plans, organizes, reviews, and evaluates laboratory programs that support production, customer, or regulatory requirements, including all related laboratory quality activities.
  • Plans, organizes, supervises, and reviews the work of staff engaged in laboratory sampling, testing, analysis, and inspection.
  • Assists in hiring laboratory personnel, trains or arranges for training, and evaluates employee performance.
  • Ensures safe working conditions within the laboratory.
  • Performs laboratory testing, operates all laboratory instruments, and develops or modifies instrumentation and lab procedures.
  • Troubleshoots instrument malfunctions and performs equipment maintenance.
  • Answers telephones and responds to email inquiries.
  • Ensures regulatory compliance and lab certification.
  • Implements and reviews quality assurance/quality control programs to ensure the reliability of test data.
  • Compiles and prepares periodic and special reports covering laboratory activities.
  • Prepares or directs the preparation of extensive reports and records.
  • Coordinates the maintenance of the laboratory data management system.
  • Provides technical consultation to operations staff for problem evaluation and solutions requiring laboratory analysis.
  • Recommends changes in methods and operations based on study findings and regulatory compliance monitoring.
  • Leads research and development of new lubricant products.
