About The Position

Mayo Clinic Laboratories is seeking a Laboratory Director to provide scientific, medical, and operational leadership for the new Southaven, Mississippi testing facility. Reporting directly to the Medical Director of the Southaven site, the Laboratory Director will oversee the development, validation, implementation, quality management, and regulatory compliance of testing services within Clinical Chemistry and Immunology. The initial focus of the role will include oversight of specialty testing programs in metals analysis, kidney stone analysis, and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS)-based assays. Additional responsibilities may include oversight of immunoassays and other advanced chemistry testing platforms as the laboratory expands. The successful candidate will serve as a key laboratory leader, partnering with medical, scientific, technical, quality, regulatory, and operational teams to ensure delivery of high-quality, innovative laboratory services that support Mayo Clinic’s commitment to exceptional patient care.

Requirements

  • Scientific and technical oversight for clinical chemistry and immunology testing
  • Direct test development, validation, verification, implementation, and ongoing performance monitoring

  • Review and approve standard operating procedures, quality management plans, and laboratory policies

  • Support development and expansion of specialty chemistry and immunology testing menus
  • Ensure compliance with CLIA, CAP, FDA, OSHA, and other applicable regulatory and accreditation requirements
  • Participate in inspections, proficiency testing programs, corrective actions, and quality improvement initiatives
  • Monitor quality indicators and laboratory performance metrics
  • Lead investigations of quality events and implementation of corrective and preventive actions
  • Provide consultative support to laboratory clients, physicians, and other healthcare professionals
  • Collaborate with Mayo Clinic Laboratories medical and scientific staff on assay development and optimization
  • Participate in scientific review, publication, educational activities, and professional presentations
  • Contribute to strategic planning and growth initiatives
  • Partner with laboratory management to recruit, develop, and mentor technical and professional staff
  • Foster a culture of safety, quality, innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement
  • Support training and competency assessment programs for laboratory personnel

Responsibilities

  • Provide scientific and technical oversight for clinical chemistry and immunology testing performed at the Southaven facility.
  • Direct test development, validation, verification, implementation, and ongoing performance monitoring for laboratory assays.

  • Oversee kidney stone analysis services, ensuring analytical quality and clinical relevance of testing.
  • Support development and expansion of specialty chemistry and immunology testing menus.
  • Ensure compliance with CLIA, CAP, FDA, OSHA, and other applicable regulatory and accreditation requirements.
  • Participate in inspections, proficiency testing programs, corrective actions, and quality improvement initiatives.
