About The Position

MHS educator for the pathway from laboratory student to laboratory employee. Develops and provides/facilitates services related to the orientation, training and assessment of new grads and inexperienced medical laboratory technologists and/or medical laboratory scientists.

Requirements

  • Bachelors (Required)
  • Clinical Lab Technologist License (TN LICENSE) - State of Florida (FL)
  • Florida Licensure as a Technologist or Supervisor to work in a CLIA licensed lab at highly and moderately complex testing level and the ability to perform waived testing.
  • 5 years experience in a clinical laboratory in a hospital environment.
  • In a job related field

Nice To Haves

  • 2 years experience in Microbiology highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and provides/facilitates services related to the orientation, training and assessment of new grads and inexperienced medical laboratory scientists and/or medical laboratory technicians and other laboratory staff.
  • Serves as a mentor and consultant for staff professional development and good laboratory practice.
  • Oversees the on-boarding for Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) and Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) students.
  • Supports laboratory education to other healthcare professionals on an as needed basis.
  • Works with the Lab Directors on ensuring that the competency assessment tools for all MHS laboratories are standardized and up to date - meet regulatory requirements of TJC, CAP, FDA, etc.
  • Coordinates the training of students, new grads and inexperienced medical laboratory scientists and/or medical laboratory technicians and other laboratory staff at different sites and ensures that competencies are completed at the sites in the respective sections.
  • Collaborates with laboratory leaders to assess the learning needs of students, new grads and inexperienced medical laboratory scientists, medical laboratory technicians and other laboratory staff.
  • Assists with the coordination of continuing education classes, special events, seminars, didactic lectures, conferences and other activities as required.
  • Coordinates "A Day in the Lab" program and serves as liaison to High Schools who have HOSA/Health programs to promote a career in laboratory science.
  • Participates in the development, coordination, and delivery of new staff orientation and education activities for medical laboratory scientist and/or medical laboratory technician school graduates, scholarship recipients, inexperienced medical laboratory professionals, other laboratory staff, and other healthcare professionals.
