About The Position

Shaw Industries is hiring an Entry Level Chemist will develop proficiency through hands-on experience with the operation and analysis of materials using analytical techniques available to the Central Laboratory; this includes but is not limited to High Performance Liquid Chromatography, Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry, Gas Chromatography, Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry, Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy, Ultraviolet, Differential Scanning Calorimetry, Thermogravimetric Analysis, Thermomechanical Analysis, and Inductively Coupled Plasma. Also included are various wet chemistry techniques like pH, viscosity, titration, decomposition/hydrolysis, etc. This position will work with laboratory personnel to complete testing requests related to quality control, quality investigations, and research and development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry or related science OR 4-year degree and 1 year of experience working in a lab setting.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in laboratory procedures and analytical techniques.
  • Ability to execute laboratory testing and operate analytical equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with others.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow SOP.
  • Good organizational skills plus the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry or related science.
  • Hands-on experience through coursework and/or prior work experience.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
  • Critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to learning.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and analyze samples using various analytical instruments (e.g., GC/MS, HPLC, FTIR, DSC, ICP).
  • Conduct routine testing of raw materials, intermediates, and finished products to ensure compliance with quality standards.
  • Conduct routine analyses of various materials in accordance with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and Good Documentation Practices (GDP).
  • Draft technical documents that report results, summarize analytical findings, presentations, etc.
  • Communicate analytical results to internal customers.
  • Prepare technical reports and presentations summarizing the research findings
  • Attend meetings with customers to discuss results of analytical testing
  • Communicate analytical results to internal customers.
  • Assist in the maintenance of laboratory equipment.
  • Aid in calibrating/standardizing analytical instruments.
  • Support troubleshooting of the analytical equipment.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed laboratory records.
  • Ensure testing, work habits, and laboratory spaces are safe and that proper personal protective equipment (PPE) is always used.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols, participate in routine safety checks, and actively contribute to a safe and clean laboratory environment.
  • Collaborate with team members on special projects.
