Under general supervision, this role is responsible for the on-time mass spectral and HPLC instrument analysis of air samples for volatile organic chemicals. The position involves maintaining quality control standard procedures for accurate and precise measurements, following defined test plans and datasheets, and evaluating test performance and sample operation. The Laboratory Chemist will record and explain test results, complete test reports, and may serve as Lead for simple test programs. This role requires communication of project status and results, defining test plans, ensuring report completion and accuracy, meeting deadlines, and managing project-related activities. The chemist will examine customer samples, learn to operate appropriate tests, and communicate with internal customers during setup and operation. They will direct, build, and/or adapt simple test setups, sample preparations/solutions, and instruments to new situations. Additionally, this role involves training other lab staff, operating and maintaining test instruments, performing maintenance on instruments and the laboratory area, and integrating basic process and instrument improvements. Communication with management and technical staff for suggestions on improvements is also a key aspect. The position requires understanding and following safe chemical hygiene practices, the Underwriters Laboratories Code of Conduct, and all physical and digital security practices. Other duties as assigned.
