About The Position

The Laboratory Assistant will be responsible for building and adapting test equipment, performing routine tests, and maintaining laboratory equipment and work areas. This role involves operating computer terminals, following test plans, evaluating test performance, and recording and explaining test results. The assistant will also prepare reports, communicate with customers, and develop a working knowledge of laboratory methods and systems. Continuous improvement and adherence to safety and conduct policies are expected.

Requirements

  • Higher Secondary Education.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to interact with customers.
  • Desire to work in a team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office suite is a must.

Responsibilities

  • Builds and/or adapts basic setup and test equipment for performance of tests.
  • Performs tests using general laboratory equipment.
  • Performs routine care of designated test equipment and work area.
  • Operates computer terminal to extract/input readily available information and to use available software.
  • As directed follows defined test plans and datasheets.
  • Evaluates test performance and sample operation to properly evaluate test results.
  • Records and explains test results.
  • Prepares charts, graphs and reports to explain test results.
  • Examines test samples, reads measuring instruments and reviews test data with supervisor.
  • Reads and interprets blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams and operational instructions.
  • As instructed examines customer samples and learns to operate basic tests for each case.
  • Communicates with customers during setup and operation to ensure proper evaluation.
  • Operates designated laboratory equipment and tools as directed.
  • Receives instructions from and reports data to engineers and other laboratory technician staff.
  • Records observed or calculated data on appropriate data sheets.
  • Develops working knowledge of the job, methods, instrumentation and systems.
  • Integrates continuous improvement concepts and techniques into all aspects of the job.
  • Read and follow the Underwriters Laboratories Code of Conduct and follow all physical and digital security practices.
  • Performs other duties as directed.
