About The Position

EMSL is seeking a Laboratory Assistant in San Leandro. This is a support position for the laboratory manager and the analysts. It will oversee preparing, shipping, receiving, distributing, and logging in of samples. The role involves receiving environmental samples, entering Chain of Custody into the LIMS system, reviewing paperwork for completeness and correctness, ensuring sample integrity, transferring samples to appropriate custody locations, coordinating sample-related activities, generating reports and invoices, and assisting with client inquiries. The assistant will also prepare environmental samples prior to analysis, maintain laboratory equipment, and act as a liaison between clients and laboratory staff.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Authorization to work in the United States indefinitely without restriction or sponsorship
  • Some laboratory experience either in academic or commercial setting is a plus
  • Experience in administration, data entry, and customer service
  • Proficient in MS Office
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with clientele
  • Ability to work in a high volume environment
  • Ability to stand and sit for various lengths of time
  • Ability to lift up to 25lbs.
  • Effective time management, organizational skills, and ability to multi-task and prioritize with minimal assistance

Responsibilities

  • Receive environmental samples and enter Chain of Custody into LIMS system
  • Review paperwork for all incoming samples to ensure completeness and correctness
  • Quality control of samples to ensure sample integrity
  • Transfer samples based on priority to appropriate custody locations
  • Coordinate and perform sample-related activities, including shipping and receiving, processing and administration
  • Generate reports, invoices, and enter data produced by analysts into the computer system for the production of the final, client ready report
  • Ensure the final report is prepared and that the results are reported to the client in a timely manner
  • Assist with internal and external client questions via phone, e-mail, and in person
  • Act as a liaison between clients and laboratory staff
  • Prepare environmental samples prior to analysis
  • Support all sample-related activities, including preservation, preparation, and disposal
  • Clean, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment as needed
  • Other responsibilities as deemed necessary by the manager
