About The Position
Smithers Environmental Risk Sciences division is seeking applicants for two full-time Laboratory Assistants at our Wareham, MA location. This is an entry-level laboratory support role that provides foundational support to the Chemistry team. No degree or previous laboratory experience is required.
Requirements
- Ability to follow detailed oral and written instructions
- Attention to detail and reliable task follow-through
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 30 lbs
- Willingness to work with live organisms (fish, invertebrates, plants, soil fauna)
- Basic computer literacy (data entry)
- High school diploma or GED required
Nice To Haves
- No degree or previous laboratory experience required.
Responsibilities
- Assist with routine laboratory maintenance tasks including cage/tank cleaning, equipment washing, and workspace preparation
- Support daily animal/organism care activities under direct supervision (feeding, watering, observation logging)
- Prepare and label materials, supplies, and consumables for active studies
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of laboratory areas in accordance with SOPs
- Assist senior staff with sample collection, preparation, and basic data entry
- Follow all health and safety protocols and GLP documentation practices as directed
- Report equipment malfunctions or unusual observations to supervising scientist
