About The Position

The Department of Natural Sciences of Pitzer and Scripps Colleges in Claremont, California, is seeking a part-time Teaching Laboratory Assistant. This role will focus on testing, editing, and proof-reading student-facing materials related to a quantum information experiment. The position involves contributing to course materials, maintaining the teaching laboratory, and actively supporting the College’s Principles of Community and Institutional Values.

Requirements

• Working familiarity with optical components from Thorlabs.
• Ability to demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Meticulous attention to detail.
• Ability to interact professionally with a diverse clientele of faculty, staff, and other members of a college community.
• Proficiency in PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and other standard issue Windows software.
• Willingness and ability to learn other software as necessary.
• Prior work experience in an optics laboratory setting required.

Nice To Haves

• Prior experience with Thorlabs Quantum Optics Educational Kit (QOP1).
• Demonstrated proficiency in LABVIEW.

Responsibilities

• Draft handouts for student-facing course materials.
• Test instrument operating procedures.
• Set up and maintain the teaching laboratory as needed.
• Contribute to the testing, editing, and proof-reading of student-facing materials on a quantum information experiment.
• Active support for the College’s Principles of Community and Institutional Values in the performance of job duties.
