This role, Clinical Laboratory Assistant (CLA)/Phlebotomist Trainee, involves preparing patient samples for diagnostic laboratory testing. Responsibilities include performing phlebotomy, accessioning, centrifuging, pipetting, and packaging samples, as well as operating instruments. CLA Trainees also handle phone calls and troubleshoot issues, working in preanalytical areas like Specimen Receiving and Phlebotomy, and various departments within the diagnostic laboratory.

  • 1 year of Relevant Work Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED

Responsibilities

  • Complete 4 weeks of online lecture material which includes safety, medical terminology and anatomy & physiology.
  • Attend rotations within appropriate shift hours: specimen receiving, anatomic pathology, chemistry, hematology, microbiology and outpatient phlebotomy for phlebotomists.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with peers, instructors, physicians, healthcare professionals, and patients, both verbally and in writing.
  • Answer phones and record messages, collect specimen delivery information and maintain documentation.
  • Ensure laboratory samples are collected, handled, labeled and transported properly.
