About The Position

This role is responsible for ensuring specimens are properly labeled and suitable for testing, resolving specimen identification and/or requisition problems, and clarifying requests. The Laboratory Assistant will also obtain billing/insurance information, enter and verify test requests into the laboratory's computer system, and answer and screen telephone calls. Key duties include receiving and sorting specimens, assisting with detailed specimen handling, packaging and tracking specimens for transport, and performing specimen storage and retrieval. The position also involves processing specimens for testing, including aliquoting, while maintaining proper specimen identification. Additionally, the role requires reviewing various pending and management reports, generating and distributing reports, assisting with inventory and ordering of supplies, and maintaining and filing copies of orders, reports, and correspondence. The Laboratory Assistant will also act as a resource and train new employees.

Requirements

  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills including experience using computer software applications.
  • Keyboarding and typing skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment and to handle multiple tasks simultaneously under general supervision.
  • Demonstrated customer service skills to interface effectively with physicians, patients, visitors, and other healthcare employees.
  • High School Graduate.
  • No experience required.
