The Laboratory Assistant 2 is responsible for performing a variety of functions either independently or under the supervision of a technologist, including drawing blood, processing specimens, order entry in lab computer, logging results, performing glucose tolerances, EKGs and performing limited laboratory waived testing. The role reports to the Laboratory Manager or Lab Supervisor. The position is responsible for patient well-being while in the laboratory, proper specimen collection, performing some tests, providing patient instructions for at-home collections, and completing accompanying paperwork. The role also involves order entry into the laboratory computer, specimen collection (blood, urine, nasal wash, throat, MRSA), performing EKGs, processing specimens, setting up urine and throat cultures, performing rapid strep testing, urine dipstick analysis, urine pregnancy testing, IStat, and other assigned tests. Additionally, the role requires performing and recording quality control, logging results, general reception duties (scheduling patients in IDX, looking up orders, answering phones), traveling to multiple locations, complying with incident reporting policies, adhering to OSHA and training requirements, and providing excellent customer service.
