Laboratory Assistant I - Per Diem
About The Position
The Laboratory Assistant I supports laboratory operations by triaging, accessioning, and processing non-gynecologic, gynecologic, and FNA specimens. The role contributes to quality control, inventory management, accurate laboratory documentation, and customer service for patients, nursing staff, physicians, and coworkers. It also helps train and mentor new staff and maintains a safe work environment while handling biohazardous materials and chemicals according to established protocols. This is a per-diem position at Evanston Hospital. The stated schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with every other weekend and rotating holidays.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least one year of laboratory experience.

Responsibilities
- Triage, accession, and process non-gynecologic, gynecologic, and FNA specimens.
- Assist with quality control processes and procedures to ensure instruments and reagents meet required performance standards.
- Perform related clerical and service tasks, including answering phone inquiries from nursing staff and physicians and providing results data as required.
- Maintain a safe work environment by using required protective devices and handling biohazardous materials and chemicals according to established protocols.
- Participate in inventory and ordering management.
- Promote patient satisfaction and customer service; treat patients with respect and care, and encourage courteous interactions with patients and hospital staff.
- Support new staff through training and mentorship.
- Ensure quality and compliance by completing and correcting laboratory logs.
