About The Position

Lakeview Hospital is hiring for a part-time Phlebotomist/Lab Assistant. This position is responsible for performing phlebotomies and receiving/processing specimens to ensure high quality in the preanalytical phase of laboratory testing.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Some positions, as identified by the Laboratory Manager, will be required to drive to various sites to perform phlebotomy. If required, must have a valid driver’s license and meet all criteria required under Lakeview’s Automobile Liability Guidelines.
  • Knowledge and skills sufficient to provide technical instructions and communicate and advise other departments on clinical laboratory procedures

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of health care program (e.g. Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Paramedic, Phlebotomy).
  • Phlebotomy Certification
  • Medical Terminology knowledge
  • Previous phlebotomy experience
  • Typing or keyboarding skills

Responsibilities

  • Consistently performs phlebotomy using department protocols and procedures to assure quality specimens. This includes serving all patient populations including ages, cultures, languages, literacy, learning needs and abilities.
  • Championing great customer service whenever we intersect with our customers- directly or via telephone. All requests are followed up accurately and efficiently in a friendly manner.
  • Consistently follows department procedures and protocols for prioritizing test orders, specimen suitability and specimen handling in order to obtain timely, accurate results to advance patient care. This includes preparing specimens to be sent to other facilities for testing.
  • Demonstrates good reasoning ability and independent judgment in handling situations not covered by written or verbal instructions.
  • Follows all hospital and departmental safety protocols and procedures. This includes infection control processes.
  • Can perform waived complexity testing (WAIVD) with appropriate supervision, as needed.
