About The Position

Under general direction, the Laboratory Animal Sciences Technician will perform a variety of tasks following established techniques and procedures. Assist in study execution; collects samples from and administers agents to research animals as IACUC approved studies require. Works with a variety of animal species and tasks will involve both in-vivo and in-vitro procedures. Documents laboratory work to acceptable standards and maintains laboratory/medical equipment and supplies in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), protocols and regulations. The successful candidate will assist in administrative functions of study execution such as labeling collection tubes and transporting supplies to appropriate area.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
1-2 years of relevant post high school education (college, university or technical school) in a science curriculum or one (1) to five (5) years of equivalent work experience in a research, commercial or hospital laboratory; or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been attained.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently and as a part of a team.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and other heavy equipment, pushing, bending, stooping, climbing, prolonged standing, outdoor work, working in extremes temperature and humidity.
Must be able to wear a respirator and protective clothing or equipment.
Ability to gain and maintain access to Kirtland Air Force base (KAFB) is required.

Nice To Haves

Computer proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, Internet Explorer, Outlook and the ability to learn department-specific computer systems as needed.
ALAT and LAT certification is preferred.
Incumbent is encouraged to sit for ALAT and/or LAT within 12 months as a level 2 technician.
LAT and/or LATG within the first 24 months is encouraged.
