About The Position

Under general direction, the Laboratory Animal Sciences Technician will perform a variety of tasks following established techniques and procedures. The Technician will assist in study execution; maintain animal areas, supplies and equipment; collect samples from and administers agents to research animals as IACUC approved studies require. Documents laboratory work to acceptable standards and maintains laboratory/medical equipment and supplies in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), protocols and regulations. The successful candidate will assist in administrative functions of study execution such as labeling collection tubes and transporting supplies to appropriate area, and performing all other related duties and tasks as required or assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • One year of demonstrated work experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been attained
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to work as a part of a team
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and other heavy equipment
  • Ability to perform pushing, bending, stooping, climbing, prolonged standing
  • Ability to perform outdoor work
  • Ability to work in extremes temperature and humidity
  • Must be able to wear a respirator and protective clothing or equipment
  • Post-offer physical and background check/security clearance are required
  • Ability to gain and maintain access to Kirtland Air Force base (KAFB)

Nice To Haves

  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, Internet Explorer, Outlook
  • Ability to learn department-specific computer systems as needed
  • ALAT Certification
